Meet The Face Behind Hannam Optical Inc.

I’m Dave Kim, the proud owner of Hannam Optical Inc.

I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I entered the optical industry in 1976 when I was 17, right after high school. My uncle owned a small optical business, so I started working there 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. After 5 years, I sought to carve my own path and opened my eyeglass store in Uijeongbu, Korea. In 2000, I moved to Canada and set up Hannam Optical. Since then, it has been a passion for me to help people as a professional optician for the last 45 years.

In the past four decades, there has been a significant technological advancement in the optical industry. When I first started, every single glass lens was cut by hand and fit into a frame. It required so much time and skill to make one pair of eyeglasses. Now, there are machines that can do all the work for us with more precision and quickness.

As a leading eyeglass repair/ optical store, we offer a wide selection of high-quality prescription eyeglasses, sunglasses, sportswear, safety glasses, contact lenses, luxury eyewear, as well as eyeglass repair, fitting, and adjustments. 

As a business, we are flexible with our customers and adapt to their wants and needs. What sets us apart from others is our consistency and diligence. Trust and honesty also play a big part in the business – we are transparent about the pricing and quality of our products.  

When people love our vast selection of frames and find what they love, I feel incredibly satisfied as a business owner. Also, when people appreciate our service through feedback and reviews. 

I believe our business success is due to our years of consistent and diligent service, our ability to respect and value every customer, and the skillset to solve and impress customers – adjustments, eye exams, repairing, etc.  

When I’m not assisting clients, I spend most of my time fishing and exercising. Swimming and walking are my favorite forms of activity.
